Bates Township Cemetery

Located in Bates Township

The cemetery is located east of Iron River about 4 miles.  The property is 1/4 mile north of U.S. 2 on the Bates-Amasa Road (County Road 643).

Records: Records for this cemetery are kept on file with the Township Clerk.  Deeds were checked prior to going to the cemetery to read the headstones, but the information here is primarily taken from the actual existing tombstones.  All spellings appear here as they were on the tombstones.

History:  The township was established in 1885.  In 1887 the Bates Township Cemetery was founded when 2/3 of an acre of land was purchased from Pete Carlson.  It was platted in 1888 and the deed registered in 1909.  The first fence was built in 1902 to keep wandering cattle out.  There has been a more recent expansion, and the current sign was erected in 1985.

Arranged alphabetically, this index includes about 550 records.
